Does it really give off heat?
Yes, gently. At full flame it gives off roughly 2 to 3 kW of radiant warmth, about what a small electric heater gives. Enough to take the chill off a room and feel it when you sit nearby, but not a replacement for your central heating.
What does it cost to run?
The 1.5 L burner gives 3 to 5 hours of flame per fill, so it uses about 0.3 to 0.5 L an hour. With UK fuel at around £2.50 to £4.75 a litre, that is roughly 75p to £2.40 per hour, depending on the fuel you choose and the flame size.
Buying fuel in bulk (for example 5 × 5 L) keeps it at the lower end.

Ember Chrome is the same freestanding bioethanol fireplace as the rest of the Ember range, finished in polished chrome. Assemble it, fill the burner and light it: no chimney, flue or installation needed.
The chrome shell reflects the flame and the room around it, so the light spreads across the whole dome instead of staying in the opening. It works well in darker interiors and next to stone, marble or dark wood, where the reflection adds warmth.
There are no cables and no switches. You light it by hand with the lighting rod, and put it out with the snuffer when you are done.
Unlit, it reads as a polished object on a slim stand. Chrome shows fingerprints more than a matte finish, so plan for a quick wipe with a dry microfibre cloth once the fireplace has cooled.
A good fit if you want a real flame in a flat, a rented home or any room without a chimney, and prefer a reflective finish to a matte one.

Use in a ventilated room, away from curtains and furniture. Never refill while lit or hot: let the burner cool fully first. Always extinguish with the snuffer and never leave a lit flame unattended. Clean the chrome finish once cool with a soft, dry microfibre cloth to remove fingerprints. Avoid abrasive products.

Do I need a chimney or professional installation?

Is it safe to use indoors?
Yes, when used as directed. A real flame with no smoke, ash or soot. Use in a well-ventilated room and follow the enclosed safety instructions.
Will it heat the room, or is it purely decorative?
Mainly ambience and visual warmth. It gives off some radiant heat, but it's not a replacement for your main heating.
Does it produce smoke or leave a smell in the room?

Can I use it in a flat or a rented home?
Yes. There is no flue to fit and nothing to drill or fix to the walls, which makes it a natural fit for flats and rented homes. Simply use it in a well-ventilated room.

Bioethanol fireplace fuel is easy to find online and in many DIY and garden stores. Pick a fuel made for bioethanol fireplaces, ideally 95% purity or higher, for a cleaner, brighter flame.
